Comic book icon Stan Lee has been accused of groping and sexually harassing nurses that cared for him at his home on a 24-hour basis.
The owner of a nursing company says Lee harassed each nurse that worked for him, according to the Daily Mail. Her employees cared for Lee at his Hollywood Hills home until late last year.
She said her nurses complained of Lee, 95, asking for oral sex in the shower and to be “pleasured” in his bedroom, walking around naked and groping the nurses. She said she confronted Lee with the allegations before termination of their business agreement.
Lee’s attorney, Tom Lallas, denied the allegations in a statement to the Daily Mail.
“Mr. Lee categorically denies these false and despicable allegations and he fully intends to fight to protect his stellar good name and impeccable character,” he said.
Lallas noted the nursing company has not filed a lawsuit or made a report with police. He hinted that the owner was looking for a payout.
“Instead, Mr. Lee has received demands to pay money and threats that if he does not do so, the accuser will go to the media,” said Lallas. “Mr. Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong.”
Lee built his empire through Marvel Comics. He started as comic book writer before guiding Marvel as editor in chief and eventually its publisher and chairman.
Lee was responsible for such comic book icons as Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man and the Hulk. The Marvel movie franchise is the most successful in history with $23 billion in box-office receipts, and Lee is worth about $50 million, according to the Daily Mail.
The Daily Mail did not name the nursing company or its owner, but quoted an unnamed source familiar with the situation that Lee “has lost his way.”
“He doesn’t seem to care what people think of him, he’s lost his filter,” the source said. “There has been a stream of young nurses coming to his house in West Hollywood and he has been sexually harassing them. He finds it funny.”
“He’s also very handsy and has groped some of the women, it’s unacceptable behavior, especially from an icon like Stan,” the source added.
The nurses worked on a shift rotation and were available to Lee for 24 hours daily. Their duties including taking his blood pressure, bringing him meals and making sure he took medication.
Since the dispute, another nursing company has been caring for Lee.
A representative for the new company says its employees have had no problems.
