A man from Ashburn, Virginia, collected a late Christmas gift from the Virginia Lottery. His ticket on Dec. 9 wound up winning him $1 million.
Better late than never.
Tom Supp bought his ticket at a 7-Eleven in Ashburn, Virginia. At first, he thought he’d won $600, which was a pretty nice return on his investment.
It wasn’t until he took his ticket to the Virginia Lottery customer service center that he found he actually won $1 million.
“I couldn’t speak after that,” he said, according to a Virginia Lottery news release. “I was in disbelief.”
Supp’s ticket matched the first five numbers in the Dec. 9 drawing, only missing the Powerball number.
His ticket was the only one of three tickets nationwide to match the first five numbers and the only one in Virginia.
The store that Supp bought his ticket receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Supp said he plans to put his winnings toward retirement.
If you’re hoping to win $1 million, or maybe even more, Saturday’s Powerball Jackpot is up to half a billion dollars, although you’re actually more likely to be crushed by a meteor than win.
But good luck all the same!
